A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR LYBIA
I have seen tumblr pull this off once before, on September 11th, 2009. It was fantastic and beautifully done.
We have spent all of today posting incessantly about the matter, the equivalent of screaming at the top of our lungs. And it has been amazing in every sense of the word.
But we need to remember why we’re doing it in the first place. Hundreds have died, hundreds more will die. Humans with lives, families, minds and dreams. We need to give them a moment of silence, if only to resume the screaming and awareness immediately thereafter.
I propose this: at 10:40 PM ET (roughly 20 minutes from the time of this posting, 10:22 PM ET), we stop.
We stop the posting, whether it be about Lybia or Glee or Harry Potter or anything at all. We sit here, refreshing our dashboards if we wish to (so as to witness the silence) and we think. Because thinking is nice, and screaming clouds it sometimes, and those who have lost their lives deserve our thoughts.
And then, at 10:45 PM ET, after five minutes of “silence,” we resume our posting about whatever we want and we revel in our ability to speak out like so many have lost the right to do today and in the days leading up to it.
Let’s try and pull this off, shall we? We’ve accomplished so much today. This would be beautiful.
Reblog and join in when the time comes.
i will unfollow anyone who posts. (btw, this is in 10 minutes.)
